The Costa Tropical: the only place in Europe where tropical fruits grow

Thus, the commercialization of subtropical fruits has registered its best figure in history, having managed to export more than 42 million euros in the first five months of 2019, which multiplies its data by six in the last decade, with an increase of more than 507 % when in 2009 there were 6.8 million in sales.

Undoubtedly, the star product of exports for Grenadian companies is the avocado that between September 2018 and August 2019 has managed to export about 12 million kilos with a significant increase compared to recent years, according to the data that they appear in the monthly report issued by the Soivre belonging to the Provincial Directorate of Commerce.

In the case of avocado in Andalusia with 259 million euros, it represents 70% of the total 2018 sales of the community.

The second subtropical fruit that has had the most output has been the custard apple, which places the Costa Tropical as the world's leading producer with 80% of the production spread over more than 3,000 hectares.

Europe concentrates the majority of sales so that the top ten markets for Granada products are European, with France being the main recipient with 39%, followed by Germany, with 13.6%, and the Netherlands, with 9, 8%, having a significant increase in recent years.

In fourth place is Portugal, with 8.5%, followed by the United Kingdom with 6.9%, Italy, Belgium, Denmark, Austria, and Switzerland.
